NEW YORK – Sonny and Cher’s little girl soon will become their little boy. Chastity Bono, the 1970s singing sensation’s only child, is transitioning from female to male, her publicist announced Thursday.
The process began shortly after Bono’s 40th birthday in March. Bono, who goes by the name Chaz to family and friends, “came out” as a lesbian nearly two decades ago and since then has been a vocal advocate for LGBT rights.
DENVER – Timothy Boham, who in 2004 and 2005 performed in gay porn under the stage name Marcus Allen, was convicted Monday of first-degree murder in the death of his male lover and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

GROVE CITY, Pa. – A college student’s part-time job ended up costing him more than the education he was trying to fund when the Christian university he attended suspended him for working in gay porn.
John Gechter, a 22-year-old senior molecular biology major who self-identifies as bisexual, is appealing the one-year suspension from Grove City College after a classmate recognized him in a video on an adult website and accidentally informed school officials. If the college does not readmit him, he said he may sue the school, since what he does on his own time is nobody’s business but his.
“I absolutely believe the college violated my rights,” Gechter told Sharon, Pa.’s The Herald newspaper. “They [suspended] me based on my occupation. I was not doing anything illegal.”
VAN NUYS, Calif. – Gay adult studio Male Spectrum announced today that it has made an Earth-Day-inspired donation to the organization Trees for the Future (www.treesftf.org), a tree-planting charity that has assisted in the planting of over 50 million trees since it was first established over 20 years ago.
Lea Busick, Subscription Site and Affiliate Program Director for Male Spectrum, said that the donation, the amount of which was not disclosed, is part of a continuing effort on the part of the company to be a “good global citizen.”
LOS ANGELES – The popular myth that lesbians and gay men are among the affluent elite may be just that — a myth. That’s according to a new report from UCLA’s Williams Institute, which studies gay and lesbian issues.
The report, which the institute claims is the first of its kind, indicates lesbian couples are more likely than their heterosexual, married counterparts to live in poverty. In addition, children of same-sex couples are more than twice as likely to be poor as children in traditional families, the study suggested.
LONDON – Despite lack of evidence that gender-reorientation therapies are effective, one in six mental health professionals has attempted to “cure” homosexuality in their patients, according to a new survey of 1,400 therapists.
The results of the study, published in the journal BMC Psychiatry, indicate 17 percent of therapists have made attempts to reduce same-sex attraction in at least one of their patients. Another 4 percent of therapists said they would be willing to attempt to change a patient’s gender orientation if requested to do so.
